Texecom VR8 gone mad

We rewired an alarm system as part of a house job. All has worked fine for the last six weeks until last night when alarm false alarmed and would not recognise correct codes from the RKP.

Have tried reset both through the RKP and control panel tamper switch whilst under mains power and panel will not reset.

Texecom advise RKP likely faulty, but I'm not sure.

Anyone willing to share any ideas?

Hi ,

Check the voltage is 12volts at the RKP

Check the little ribbon cable within the keypad is secure.

Try the default user code.

Make sure you remove all power to the system for at least 10 secs before you repower.

Swop the keypad for a spare , or try the keypad on another system.

Check battery for a cell fault draging aux volts down to some thing like 8 volts or less maybe cause of original false alarm system still sort of works but does crazy things, drop mains off and check battery volts on load!.

cheers for replies.

I didn't spend much time looking at the system yesterday as I only went to silence it. I did measure battery voltage and it was found to be 11.33v off load.

However, texecom said that if I tested the system with battery disconnected and mains on I should bypass any problem with battery.

Inside the panel, global and bellbox tamper are linked out (by the original installer), as are unused zones. When powered up, PIR Leds are coming on as normal.

System was set to part guard when problems started sunday night and user code wasn't recognised when attepting to turn off system. I have tried to load factory setting using methods described and still neither default or user settings had any effect.

After three attemps to enter code keypad made a dull noise, which I assume is a lockout.

Since I don't deal with this stuff often enough to have spares about, calling out the installer might be more cost effective, but I buy other types of security equipment and therefore can easily get parts for this. If I do it it's on a none profit basis.

I'll have a good look through the manual first and follow suggestions given above.

Furthermore to the above,

I noticed that if turned the system on and left it to do the beep cycle (not sure if it was doing nine or ten beeps) the system eventually went silent, but would alarm after about ten minutes.

If you didnt install it Mick the NVM may be locked, although Im sure it only locks the Engineer code NOT the user code.

9 beeps=tamper fault

10 beeps=no mains power.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Basically, I ended up rewiring the system 6 weeks ago. It's a guy I have bit of an informal partnership with (he makes steel gates and I go the electical instal) and he moved house. He started knocking walls down and asked me to pove a couple of PIRs but it became a bigger job when he lifted the carpets and wanted rid of all undercarpet wiring.

When I first powered the system up after rewire, I had problems accessing the programing options and assumed the memory was locked. I could do walk test, but not much else. At this point, I called the installer, expained the situation and asked him to come out, but instead he assured me he never locks the memory and talked me through a way of resetting the system through the keyad. Very nice of him.

Difference is now any keypad input seems to be being ignored by the panel.

As I said, I may just call him out. I don't like to be defeated though, and feel I should be able to sort this.

Definate possibilty I have an older panel and a more recent manual, as texecom sent me the latest one. Didn't notice any wrong information when I set up the system.

I remeber the panel is at least three years old.

Tamper is on, but I have the control panel lid off. Although this causes an alarm, surely inputting a correct code should at least hold off the alarm?
