Scantronic 9448

Can anyone here help a new member?? I have been asked by a friend to look at a panel in his mothers house. It is a scantronic 9448 installed in 1992. Said mother moved into the house about 2 years ago and has never used the alarm, primarily due to having not been left the code by the previous occupant. :realmad: There is no manual in the house.

I had a look last night, and Zone 1 & 2 Lights are ON, Zone 3 Light is flashing ON and OFF at a constant speed. Kitchen has been replaced since she moved in and she thinks cables were interfered with. :fear:

Before I resort to getting a "mature" citizen to replace her panel, does anyone know if these lights should be on or not. I am more concerned about the light that is flashing. Tamper light is OFF.

I am confident in my ability to repair / replace the system, (studied Microporcessor systems at college) but with no codes I dont want to go opening covers and things until I know what it should be doing. If its kaput, any recommendations on a new system? Scantronic again? I have already sorted out aforementioned friends Response panel after the previous occupant made a total pigs ear of installing it. To the point of it being useless. (I know what your going to say)

Sorry for being long winded, and thanks for your help.

If you have no codes, you will need to have the system defaulted and reprogramed by an engineer.

There may well also be some faults with the cabling, if you can use a continuity tester you may save a few quid if you fix the cable faults yourself ?

You should do this before you call the engineer, unless you want to pay for two visits.

I see where you're coming from but an engineer should be able to sort it all out in one service\maintenance visit.

As you don't have codes for the system then I would recommend calling someone in as there's not much you can do to it.

User manual anyway. The code may have been set back to default by the previous occupants?

Better of calling an engineer out for this one. Get the alarm repaired and take out a maintenance contract each year.

hi - all that means is that zone 3 was activated first then zones 1 and 2.

if you had user code it would be a simple - put code and start again. try 1234 and if not you,ll need a competent engineer to fix it

No your right I certainly dont but this is an alarm panel and I know of many older than this that are still working perfectly, just coz somethings old dont mean its knackered!!!!!!

Well all the 9448 manuals are available online, good panels still being used, I'm going to be fitting one myself.

-Check cables with continuity tester

-Repair or Replace cables

-Replace any detectors/contacts etc which are knackered

-Default the panel

-Reprogram

I would tell you how with the engineer manual I have, but thats in the trade section only, of which I and I am assuming you too are not a member of :-(

Unless I'm allowed???

:fear:
