Greenhorn
Hello everyone, great industry can't wait to start a new life as an installer. I'm just finishing my 6th year in the Marines where I have worked as an electronic warfare technician, a PC maintenance engineer and a security team leader. I am currently doing City & Guilds in security systems installation,(alarms/cctv/access control), and a B-tec in cctv over IP, as my resettlement into civvy street. I have 16th edition, Part P, Domestic Electric and P.A.T. High PC literacy being trained to A+ and Security+. I'm ultra keen, passionate about security systems, punctual and tidy, with a full clean driving license. I'm looking for a company that is willing to take on and develop a young, enthusiastic, hard working propective installer. If not any advice about starting off in the industry would be greatly appreciated.
secboy
I think from the sound of it you may well have the world at your feet old boy its just a question of who snaps you up first, good luck I think you will do well! if you already have the basics of security systems you may only need to hone your skills a little but may I suggest that you look in the direction of a company that deals in large intergrated systems where your obvious training and enthusiasm will be best appreciated but also the financial rewards will be higher, its just a thought? regards Paul. PJF
Post the area you are moving back to, theres a lot of employers on this sight or have a look at Initials site as there are plenty of jobs going in various areas. I wasnt a marine but been to Norway 6 times so we probally pi**ed in the same snow . Dont worry about civvy st, I went into panic mode for about a week then sorted my self out. Top tip: if you ever catch fire, try to avoid seeing yourself in the mirror, because i bet thats what REALLY throws you into a panic and dont forget the one thing you cant recycle is wasted time. Guest
Hi Mr. Horn. As has been said, I doubt you'll find any problems getting a job with pretty much any company with an outstanding list of credentials such as you have. There are people that view and particiapate on the forums who may well be interested or you could start applying to some of the nationals. They're not always to everyones liking but it would be a good start in the industry and it would gain you some valuable work experience while you find out whether it is the way to go long term, (i.e. you may decide you would like to work for a smaller firm who would more than likely want to see some job history in the industry before taking you on). Greenhorn
I just got back from Harstad it was quite warm, it only got to -24. I can move anywhere because i'm only living in military accom, but I'll probably stay in the South of England cos I've had enough of cold weather. Greenhorn
Starting off my pay won't be so high, (which is fair enough), but it probably won't be enough to live in London.
