Alexg Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Guys, I'm looking at some pinhole board cameras to install as a covert system to watch each way down my pavement at home; I'm going with B/W for better night time surveillance. I have the choice of 380TVL & 420TVL cameras, is it better to go for the 420, will it be far superior to the 380? The cameras are going to be at head height and close up as face recognition is the key of the project. The recording is through an AVE duplex multiplexer & a Panasonic S-VHS vcr. On my multiplexer I
Service Engineer Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Each field alternates to create a complete picture a certain number of times . A pictures frame rate determines the number of times each second that a picture is taken. The higher the TVL of the camera, the better it's picture quality should be. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
ian.cant Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 You should see a difference but that of course will depend on the monitor you use.
Alexg Posted October 15, 2005 Author Posted October 15, 2005 Thanks, Its getting the best image for recording thats the key. The monitor is a 22" metal cased Ultrak unit - I forget the TVL but it was around £400 so it will be resonable.
Rich Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 S-VHS VCR can record at 400TVL if I remember correctly, so I would go for the 420TVL camera. The multiplexer usually has the 2 settings of field and frame depending on the type of VCR connected, you will probably find frame will be the setting you require, but try both see what happens.
baywatch Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Make sure you go with good low lux cameras or even using monochrome will be wasted.
Alexg Posted October 15, 2005 Author Posted October 15, 2005 Many thanks! The cameras are 0.1 lux - Is this about the best you can hope for with board small board cameras?
baywatch Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 No you can get good mini cameras with pinhole that claim to go down to 0.003 Lux. They do give very good low light performance. http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/low-light_mini-cam.htm Not sure if its O.K. to post above link ? I am nothing to do with RF Concepts
Alexg Posted October 15, 2005 Author Posted October 15, 2005 Many thanks, Would they be IR sensitive?
