jmwhooper Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Hi I bought a house with the above pre-installed, however I'm looking into home automation and would like to be able to monitor the status of the alarm and also set the alarm via a PC (or PC wall keypad/controller). I know there are X10 type devices that can do this kind of thing but I don't want to go down the X10 route. So my question, is there a system that can be installed using the existing alarm wiring, that is IP compatible (wired or wireless) so it can be connected to my home network? Thanks in advance J.
sparky83 Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 The Texecom Premier is capable of this don't know a lot about it yet though, you just need to buy the IP-com module to go with it. Trade Member

Hi The R8+ can have a USB or Serial Communicator, so you could directly plug the panel into a computer and monitor it through the Veritas UDL Software. Or there is a UNI-Com module that connects the panel to a modem, and you can remotely connect to the panel using the same software. With the Veritas range there is no option of connecting the panels via an IP link. The Premier range have the facility to have an IP connections. I have looked at the Veritas UDL software there does not seem to be a way of setting it up to connect through an IP medium you only have the option of Com ports 1 - 4 and through the computers modem. I thought you might be able to use a serial to IP converter and plug the PC-Com into it then access it over you LAN but the software does not have the option of doing that. I hope this has helped Andy
jmwhooper Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 That's great info thanks. The last question is, if I wanted to upgrade to the premier version would the existing wiring be sufficient to replace the control panel and 2 keypads, leaving all the existing PIR's etc in place? I hope it wouldn't require additional wiring.......
