As many LAN cards autosense you might not even need a crossover, just a standard cable. IEEE standard 802.3 (ethernet) defines that workstation NICs are not to autosense when using twisted pair. If they did, you'd confuse your autosensing network switches. There are a couple which break standard, but DON'T use them because without adhering to standards, there's absolutely no garantee that they'll work at all. You will need either a hub/switch OR a crossover cable. A straight network cable will not work.
