Guest Gerry J Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I live in Barnstaple Devon and would like to upgrade my Scantronic 9200 sytem which I installed about 12-15 years ago. Is there anybody that sells components in the area and if so for what system?
Paul Giles Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 We can cover that area, dont think there is anyone else on here more local? No point in doing it yourself as no doubt the external box will be blank and not much of a deterrent amongst other reasons. I live in Braunton!! Edmundsons stock alot of Texecom detectors/SAB's and Menvier panels (actually, they do stock the Texecom R8, nothing to shout about though!). Denmans will order you anything from Texecom - the premier is good kit. Newey and Eyre can also get all menvier kit (hold very little stock, and what they have is out of date!). Citys, Devondale and Wilts only stock DIY ****. Thats it on the supplier front, loads of installers, but none who will really want to supply, and they all fit Texecom and Menvier anyway........a few scannys knocking around still, but rare on a new install. bri Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I did some work for them on hotels in plymouth and bristol.....and a couple travelodges Same ones....I was a supervisor for Cardiff firm and was their main engineer on the contract. Everyday to Worcester on the same flippin call for the same flippin hotel for a flippin AFA 220V sSTEM. I hated those systems, there was on in the Grand in Weston Super Mare....yuch!!! I had a run in with the manager at Filton once, grabbed him by the collar and shook him a bit. Not very proffessional but he pushed me a bit too far to which he later apologised and we kissed and made up. Bri

I had a run in with the manager at Filton once, grabbed him by the collar and shook him a bit. Not very proffessional but he pushed me a bit too far to which he later apologised and we kissed and made up. I went to the plymouth one to re-terminate LOADS of pyro ends.....lucky im a spark!! Also to change every bell for an electronic sounder. Lovelly bid of tray work in the staff areas, and above some false ceilings. VERY scarey room above the lift shaft though.......wouldn't get away with working in them now from the health and safety angle MAD, huge wheels and pulleys that started moving without notice, and not much room to stand still! Also changed loads of EM lights in the hotel in bristol - pain in the ass, no key switches or isolators, turn the lighting circuit off, killed the corridoor lights you where working in!! Remember doing the Travelodges, the rooms arriving on a flat bed lorry, painted, decorated etc, and they simply got bolted together. Sparky connected the tails to the fuseboards in the service hatches, and we run cables down the corridoor above the suspended ceiling, and fed them through ducting into each room for the detectors/sounders. How many ducts where nailed, crushed etc!! I remember two artexed ceilings being butchered to get the cables through!! Also, running cables everywhere for the fire-exit alarms as a last minute request. I went in the loft of one Travelodge, and found a pile of £1 coins....around £15 I recall......right beneath the aerial booster - poor bugger He had long gone......so that was mine! My boss fell out with Les over payments, as I was being charged out to him including travel, and he didn't pay travel to his lads! One of the lads working for him is now a partner, and they have expanded to include intruder alarms, as they didn't do many when I was with them, only fire/nurse call/EM. All the other blokes that worked for him left, and I see them around working for other companies. Email : martin@askthetrades.co.uk
