AidenC Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Hi, i found a fault while maintaining one of my systems, the panel is an scantronic 9300 with 2 zones + entry-exit + PA. Now when i set the system one of the pir's would not trigger the alarm, and when i checked the alarm pair it went 1.6ohm closed cct and OL on open cct which lead me to believe it was a dodgy pir so i changed it and the same thing happened, this lead me to believe it could be a dodgy zone on the cable so i got a scrap bit of alarm cable and tested it on a walk test by twisting and opening one of the pairs. Then when i traced the cable back from the detector found that it went through a tag block in another detector, so i metered back from that detector(on the pair that then went to the other detector) to the panel and got 1.6ohm closed cct and 160k ohm closed cct. Now that leads me to believe it is a dodgy cable, but how can i confirm this, what other tests can i do and how come i got normal readings when i tested the first pir and it has to go through that tag block. This fault has been driving me mad
Guest CHRISATBSS Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 why did that first reading lead you to think it was a pir at fault and what is a tag block chris
AidenC Posted October 27, 2005 Author Posted October 27, 2005 I first noticed the fault when the pir wouldnt activate on a walk test, i also checked the power to the detector and it was a steady 12v. The panel comes with pre programmed zones so they cant be changed. I suspect it is the cable, if the reading on the alarm pair at the detector is 100kohms instead of open cct does this mean there is some feed back of some sorts from the other pairs, if so is there some way to confirm this before i have to replace the whole cable(which i really dont want to do).
Guest CHRISATBSS Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 that reading at the detector was that with the wires still in the panel chris
Guest CHRISATBSS Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 we are discussing 9300 not 9200 but yes you are right chris
AidenC Posted October 27, 2005 Author Posted October 27, 2005 That reading was with the wires out of the panel i got 1.6Ohm in with the wires twisted together and 100kohms when you prize them apart. Ive no need to program zones out, just to fix the problem on the current zone Thanks
Adi Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Staple through the cable? I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Guest CHRISATBSS Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 no did you not see my picture of the 9300 it is not blank and the 9300 is blue and didnt have an nvm chris chris have you checked for earth faults on the cable and are you holding the cable ends with your fingers to the meter probs as you can somtimes get a reading through you with a digital meter chris
ian.cant Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 For your information, its the same panel except the 9300 is blank with a remote keypad Get back in the mod lounge.....................
breff Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Get back in the mod lounge..................... And take your sunglasses off!!! The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
