Some advice please

We do CCTV but have been asked by a customer to have a look at their present alarm system. It is an old Optima XM 4 zone which was fitted around 10 years ago and is bulky. They want a new bell box and a slimmer newer 4 to 6 zone control box ( with intgral keypad ) or remote keypad plus three new PIRs and of course cost is an issue here. As I am unfamiliar with available kit and pricing I would be greatful if some one advise me as to what I should fit and who to buy the kit from.

Thanks

Trade member with only 10 posts ?

Is it getting easy to get into the trade section?

A large amount of post's does not guarantee trade status.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Have a look at the Veritas 8c , the Prestige pir and the Odessey bell boxes , all easily available online or at your nearest electrical wholesaler.

Texecom

No, wasn't me - not that it matters.

I am sure someone will recommend a Texecom something or other!

Gordon, do you have experience fitting intruder alarms at all? If not, are you going to be doing more of them? Only asking because it may be more aggravation than its worth (just to do a one-off). Choosing and purchasing a system is one thing - fitting it is another matter. But I am sure people here will point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I have fitted intruder alarms but not here in the UK. I used to do a lot of design work for alarm and intruder systems such as timers, pulse counters and energisers, chargers and special or OEM add-ons etc including electric/electronic sliding gate control units. I used kit from Rokonet because that was popular. The 'upgrade seems pretty straight forward so we thought we should help if possible.

I will have a look at the makes mentioned, thanks again.

Sorry, I didn't realise there was a minimum requirement for posts before being a trade member, I thought that if you were in the trade and could be verified as such then you qualified. Dave Partridge checked my credentials and was kind enough to allow me in.

There used to be a rule that a trade member applicant had to post a minimum of 20 posts before he/she was considered. This was quite beneficial for several reasons but has been abolished in most instances where the applicant is easily proven to be trade.

Ah! That explains the query regarding my membership then. Thanks Zak. Also, I was looking at the Rokonet comet PIR and comparing it to the Prestige that was suggested. From what I can see the main differences seem to be that the Prestige is designed to work up to 15m as opposed to the comet 12m and that the Prestige zone height adjustment is internal by moving the PCB up and down where as the comet is fixed at time of install. In your opinion is the honeywell AG3W/B bell box reasonably good considering it's price ?

I am sure that both detectors have height adjustment internally. There is nothing between those detectors that should make any difference to you - so I would base it on aesthetics - which one you think looks better!

Don't know about the bell box. If you are asking my opinion I would choose Rokonet for the PIR and not use Honeywell at all :o . But that is based on nothing more than my personal preferences.
