Guest bobalan Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Now long retired, I installed a Scantronic 9600 panel in the early nineties. The system is still working perfectly and I am very happy to keep it a little longer. However, the single 9625 keypad has become very worn and I would like to replace it. As it happens when the system was installed I had intended to fit two keypads but in the event only one was fitted and I still have the unused keypad in its original packing. I now want to do a straight swop of the keypads. The Installation Guide gives clear instructions for programming the identification number of the keypad and sounder/backlight keypad(s) with no aux or bells connected before the main panel functions are programmed originally. Can anyone please tell me if it is really necessary now to disconnect aux and bells and perhaps even restore factory defaults before fitting the replacement pad and then reprogram the system from scratch? Or can I simply connect the three wires to the new keypad (in Engineering Mode of course) since the present data on the NVM chip would be OK. Talking of NVM chips, after browsing some earlier solutions on the website I thought I should buy a couple of spares for the IC8 and IC9 on the 9600 panel. They are identical and they are marked B29AB 93C566N but neither RS Components nor Maplins stock them. Can anyone suggest where I can get them please? Many thanks for any help you can give.

Yes you can swap the keypads over without having to reprogram the panel. The 93c56 is a microwire serial EEPROM (NVM) and I still have a few spare ones kicking about. Maplins and RS have discontinued them as they are now obsolete devices but both used to stock them. Data sheet for them attached Regards Bellman 93c56.pdf Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Vince8282 Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Nice one Bellman Practice in the morning, practice at night. Practice in the evening, until you get it right. Only make sure you are practising in the right way at the right time for it.

Any chance you could sell me a couple of your spare NVM 93c556 chips? Anyway, whether you can or not thanks very much for your quick reply and help.
