Trade membership without probing?

No nobody from my firm is on here not unless they are not mentioning the company name.

I think I am probably one of many people thats put off getting a proper trade membership because of the "application" process. I understand the need to filter out the riffraff but realisticly there are more reliable ways than ringing somones employer or collegue to verify that they are an engineer. What would there be to stop me from just giving you my own number and posing as a collegue for example?

As I say you guys are probably lucky that you work for firms that are relaxed about sites like this but the place I work for as good as they are in terms of looking after you/pay etc they would be suspicious as to why I need membership to a security website. (as I would probably be asking business setup related questions they probably have good reason to be suspicious!)

All I'm saying is it makes a lot of sense from all angles to have some alternitive process to get trade membership, otherwise you just end up with a bunch of trade members such as me who cant contribute to their full potential as we are locked out of relevent areas of the site

As a "security" forum it obviously has to be security before convenience, that may mean that someone might lose out on full trade membership if they cannot be verified - inconvenient though that may be it has to be important.

Fill in the form and see where it takes you - you can stipulate no employer contact and hope that verification can still be made, nothing to lose really.

As above mate, fill out the form and hopefully you ll get in, I know it must be frustrating knowing there is a lot more to this site and not having access. Others have been granted membership without having there employers knowing about it. I think they ask security questions that only an engineer or someone in the trade will know.

Fill out that form now.

Adi

I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

Re-read POST 3 above, from Service Engineer (site owner). He has already said he won't contact your employer. And as Pete said further down.

We have in the past and are quite happy to call you and verify by asking technical questions that could not be easily answered by a bluffer.

Of course if you're not able to answer them we will have to knee cap you for wasting our time.

mate I can't see what the problem is, look at it this way it protects everybody,

I was subjected to a disciplinary hearing with my last company for using this site, in those days it was easier for any tom dick or harry to read what you were saying, with the trade protection you can feel reassured that the information is only going to another engineer, and not some sneaky boss that had registered quickly and tried to trap you,

The guys have already said they will speak to you directly and give you a quick quiz, just fill the form out you know it makes sense,

Well, if my staff came on here to bitch about me or my company I would not be very happy about it at all. Especially if they were wrong, which of course they would be! They should be more professional than that. Not to mention confidentiality an' all.

errm.. i am not sure how NSI register the companies they give status "gold", but I guess it is very easy to check from NSI registration info and cross check that with the info that you gave out..?

Your employer is not the point. But:

1) Who?

2) What?

3) Where?

4) Why (in the hell) ?

If you ask me (I answer eventhou you don't ask me  ) I would like every trademember to be screened just like you would be screened when you would be employed by someone within this trade.
