Zak Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 ? Indeed! You have to have 2 sensors triggered after activating the entry timer before you get a confirmed alarm. And they have to be 2 detectors that are completely independent of the entry route devices. Guest bob2611 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Hi Everyone and thank you for the replies. As you can see I am not a very smart chap when it comes to these things. In response to Zak, I was prompted to join this forum after being burgled (and yes I had an alarm fitted... no one took any notice). I decided to take an active step in security. I work in IT and have some experience with IP and web servers, hence was looking at moving in to IP camera technology for my house. I also find it very difficult to swallow what some of these security company chaps were charging me (as I have worked with IT consultants who are complete sharks). A security company tried to charge me
morph Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 All the panels you list are reliable and do what they say on the tin, however if I were to choose one of these panels I would go for 1/ Galaxy 2/ Gardtec 816 3/ Scantronic Reasons, Galaxy have thousands of panels installed and the can be taken over/maintained by any company. Gardtec, are also a a poplular panel, but you can lock the engineer code to the panel, and some companies wont release or reveal the code if you change, seccondly if the company ceases trading you may have to change the panel. Scantronic are also popular panels, but compared to the other two they are somewhat dated. You state signalling as dualcom being required, You may be aware of the new regulations EN50131 that into affect in october these will affect the cost and design of the system. You may also now have to change detection deveices etc. I would suggest that you now get three local companies in to carry out a risk assessment and quote for the required upgrade also check with your insurers if they require an alarm for your cover and what conditions they stipulate.
Service Engineer Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Just my preferance, Im not knocking the Galaxy, it is a great panel with some useful features. But honestly i'd swap my Galaxy 60 for a Gardtec 840 any day..I can't understand why everyone loves the Galaxy soo much, it's total overkill for most jobs. For any job upto a medium commercial i'd prefer to use the Gardtec 800 series. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
Guest kcp Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Please can someone assist with me with an issue I have having with my alarm system. I have a Gardtec - PR4896 rev 1.0 alarm system with Red Care fitted. The company that fitted it has gone in to receivership and I am now placing my maintenance with a new company. The company is stating that the local Police Constabulary have changed the rules with regards to call outs. Therefore from next year, two separate sensors must be triggered before red care should signal. Apparently my system does not do this and I need to change my CPU main box. Please can you confirm that to be the case. I was under the impression that sometimes these issues can be resolved with new firmware or a chip swap out. Sorry to burden the forum with this, but I'm scared about getting ripped off. sorry to tell you but thats right new euro standards mean system must have two types of detection with fob setting you need to check insurance to get your system graded as detctors now come in 2 grades

I agree Dave Gartec are good panels, having installed lots of them. But the guy has the problem of the original installer having ceased trading, if his new installer locks the panel, ceases trading or the customer is not happy with their service, he will be in a position where he more than likely have to fork out for a new sytem. Didn't you have a Gardtec in your own house before the galaxy? If its an issue of looking at minimal financial outlay in the future then its got to be galaxy every time.
Service Engineer Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Didn't you have a Gardtec in your own house before the galaxy? Yeah I did, and I had planned to get me a new GT840 but my boss at the time owed me and the Galaxy equipment was payment. Believe me I'd rather have had an 840 though. The engineer code being locked shouldn't be an issue so long as the customer gets his new installation company to agree to reset the Engineer code upon contract termination. 99% of companies will agree to do this. ........................................................
