jelly belly Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Here's a tool that you may find useful for setting or checking the address switch settings on a number of CCTV Dome, Receiver or other Security products. Although the binary system is fairly easy to work out, I get a suprising number of support calls where the address has been incorrectly set. No excuses now!! The Binary Address Calculator is available FREE of charge and can be downloaded from:- http://www.software4cctv.co.uk Jelly Belly Portsmouth, England http://www.software4cctv.co.uk
Rich Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Not bad and free What about Binary plus one though? There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't. Out of curiosity, how many have set the switches backwards? Binary goes right to left the switches are left to right
ian.cant Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't. Surely that would only be 01 types of people
Rich Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Surely that would only be 01 types of people Well if it was 01 types of people, I would have put there is 01 type of person.

Who would write binaries from left to right except me when I was setting the DIP's again and again until I noticed that the DIP-switchboard was upsidedown on the PCB..
jelly belly Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 Hi Rich You are right of course that when a binary number is written down the least significant bit is on the right. In practice though, every DIP switch that I have ever seen is marked with 1 being on the left. Sometimes these can be mounted upside down which can be confusing. If you or anyone else knows of a different protocol that you would like added then just get in touch with me. Jelly Belly

Jelly Belly you could always turn your laptop upside down, hey preto tool now matches switches
ian.cant Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I find it hard to accept that people need a programme to figure out dip switch settings for binary but i realise i shouldnt be surprised when they cant figure out resistor values without a colour chart.

I never even learned the colours because some resistors are single coloured..
