Guest efftwo Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 I will need to replace my panel. (See general section) I have looked at the one fitted now and there is a black box (3X2'') in there with an LED and a few wires in/out. It appears to be a seperate part to panel. I don't realise its purpose but further to this will the sensors fitted at present be compatible with any new panel? 5 windows + 2 door sensors with sounder inside, bell box outside. 4 zones.
Guest dale Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 The little black box sounds like a radio tranciever which is used to communicate with wireless alarm equiptment like wireless PIR's. If you dont have any wireless euiptment in use in your homke then rip it out.... otherwise leave it in! (By the way, is the LED green?, if so it sound like a Micromark piece of add-on stuff). Dale
JB_ Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 How old is this panel? Could the box be an analyzer unit for some older type vibration sensors that consist of a ball bearing in a metal lined tube? (i.e the 5 windows you quote) I'm guessing thats what it is, as there's no Pir's and any system i've come across with no pir's has been REAL old and made before the powered vibration sensors. Give each of the window sensors a knock, see if the bearing has become stuck, if i'm correct the led should go out once the input circuit if closed.
morph Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Da systems for a while, sold a radio Panic button, which was made by micromark, it had a pendant transmitter. It could also be a circuit splitter but this is unlikely as i dont ever recall having fitted a black case one, only white. There should be a little bank of switches on the unit? Colin.
Guest oldtimer Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 The general rule of thumb is if you are changing the control panel you should also change the outside sounder as the new sounders draw a smaller current and the new panels cannot power the old horn/bell sounders. PIRs are the same. The old Racal 772 (raincoat or what) draws 100mA and the Pyronix Colt draws 15mA.
Guest efftwo Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Windows are fitted with inertia impact detectors. This wee box may be an electronic digital analyzer which is part of the system spec. So as JB_ suggested is this for these window sensors? Proposed replacement panel is a Securit 800L with remote keypad.
Service Engineer Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 It does sound as though that box could be the Analyser for those inertia detectors. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
