Aegis Bellbox

Hi,

Can anyone help.

I have just moved into a property which has an old but well installed aegis alarm system in it.

I want to replace it with a newer unit. However on diconnecting the backup battery the external bell box sounds.

I wish to keep the old bellbox as the installation looks good.

Can I use the bellbox on a newer system? and how can I disable it in the meantime.....? So I can rip out the old panel.

Hi ,

I would personally fit a new bell , it will have a timer which your old box may not.

Just keep the hold off voltage supplied to the old bell (using a 12v battery ) and this should give enough time to remove the old panel and replace with a new one.

thanks for that...

errrrr which connections will be the hold off voltage?

Sorry but I am confused.

What new control panel are you fitting? Are you saying that you have the knowledge/experience/competence to wire in a new panel and programme it, but that you don't know that there is a back up battery in the outside SAB, and how long it rings before cutting off?

Yes thank you, I am well aware that the bell box has a battery in it, and that it has a timer circuit in it also.

I thought this forum was to offer advice, your tone suggests that it is for professionals.

As moderator perhaps your forum should make it clear that it is for industry people only.

Thanks KKA.

If I remove the battery in the panel, the bell box sounds, I think because the bell box assumes a cut cable... i merely want to render the outside bellbox redundant without annoying the neighbours so that I can fit a new panel, and then choose whether to refit the external bellbox to a new panel or not.

my thinking was that if you remove the front cover to the panel, to remove the back up battery (as stated). this action would set off the internal siren in tamper, not necessarly the outside siren (in tamper condition) unless this older panel does sound external siren in tamper. sorry i may be wrong. at this point simply entering the code would kill the sirens caused by tamper. then the wire to the bell would have to be removed, removing the supply would cause the sab to sound the outside siren ( if not already sounding). then doing what fastcar initially said would work and hold sab off long enough to change the panel. beware of the mains supply

Not at all.

Perhaps you should consider though, that when asking for help, that you post more thorough comments/questions initially so that answers can be provided without people having to assume certain things due to lack of information or even contradiction.

As moderator perhaps your forum should make it clear that it is for industry people only.

I do not see where I said this. Perhaps you should calm down, take a breath, count to ten, smile, and then breathe. You know full well is it not for industry people only. You have said that you are going to do something quite complex but then ask a very basic question. As I said, perhaps read your posts before you post them and be as comprehensive and as clear as possible, as the written word is often mis-interpreted (clearly).
