Guest Newts Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Hi again everyone. I have a Scantronic 9800 in the house I bought in September, and once over the initial teething problems someone would have when using their first alarm, I thought everything was ok with it. Anyway the last couple of nights, the alarm has gone off for no reason other than "bf" which is battery fault. It is becoming a real pain, and to be honest I am thinking of getting the whole system taken out. Can anyone please give me some advice on the following: 1) Can I switch the whole system off, I dont mean unset it, I mean stop all power going through it so that I can just leave it until after xmas? If so how? 2) If I get an engineer round to have a look at it, to fix the problem, can you give me a ball park figure as to what a callout should cost and how long this problem should take a qualified engineer to sort out? On another slightly different subject I am also looking to take one of the internal sensors down, can I just take it down or will I need an engineer to reprogram the system? Any help would really be appreciated as the wife and I are getting no sleep as once the alarm goes off the kids wake up and it takes an age for them to go back off again, only for the system to go off again. Many thanks
ian.cant Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 It really needs a service including probably a battery replacement and an engineer to remove the detector for you - price may depend on your area. A service shouldn't take longer than an hour and could be a bit less, however how long to remove the sensor depends on whether cable needs to be removed etc, etc. It would be a shame to not have the facility of the alarm just because it needs a service. Just switching off power will make the outside sounder activate. Agree totally with RJB, expect to pay anything over
Guest James South West Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 While you could replace the battery yourself and you could remove the detector and bridge out the tamper and alarm ccts, this will take you some time with lots of bells and bleps going off + you'll have to find a new battery and go get it + it might not be the problem. The company I work for would charge you
