Which Alarm System

I am currently building a new 5 bedroomed house and wish to install a suitable alarm system. As the house is in the process of being built, a wired system should be relatively easy to install.

I would prefer window contacts downstairs as I would like to be able to set the alarm at night and not worry about my young children setting off the PIR's. The new house will have wooden sliding sash windows and therefore the alarm system must be compatible with this type of window.

I live in a relatively remote area and would like to be contacted by my mobile phone if the alarm went off. In addition I would also like several members of my family to be added to the contact list if I was unobtainable to switch off the alarm.

I have spoken to one engineer who recommed Texecom but as I am unfamiliar with any of the manufacturers I would be grateful for some impartial advice as to which system would best suit my needs.

The biggest question is: do you intend to have it professionally installed, or do it yourself? If professionally installed then you should not worry too much at this stage as to what panel.

Sash windows can be a pain to alarm with contacts, Id go mroe towards vibration and glass break detectors.

Also, like RJB said, definately go professionally monitored and if the place is remote then also consider Redcare so that cut phone lines are signalled.

And I wouldnt worry about equipment types at this stage, get yourself a couple of quotes from SSAIB or NSI approved installers and go with what ever equipment they recommend as they will be geared up with whatever they use.

If your going for contacts on sash windows, remember you need 2, 1 top and 1 bottom.

Your better off fitting vibration detectors, but mount them central where the windows overlap.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
