Well......... Gardtec tech also give out my number and probabally give out other engineer's numbers as well, it is possible to unlock a locked engineer code, if you don't know how then I'd be asking yourself just how good you are with Gardtec's panels!! It is something that can easily be done in the field or at the office providing you have half a clue what your doing, and it's really not hard. I've posted details of how to do it in the trade section of the site along with nova, as I've already offered, if there is a valid reason why it's locked out I'll unlock it for him which is an agreement between me and him and nothing to do with this site and is totally private between us if he decides to do so, I will make enquires as to find out why it's locked out.

There are lot's of engineers who know Gardtec's like the back of their hand on here along with many other systems, usally people earn their respect, but welcome

not quite sure why i copped the "but welcome" pop? its not as though i intended to say 'i'm the chosen one' or the world leading expert on gardtec panels i simply stated i am very conversant with them. i too know many other makes of panels and equipment and i am also respected for my knowledge by many outside of this forum - which is not the whole security world in here.

i too can unlock engineer locked-in codes, but i thought it not to wise discussing that openely in the public sector - client confidence and all that or gadtec might take steps to stop it in the next models.

i'm sure you are aware its a feature designed to protect installers (us) from being 'shafted' with i'll put the cheque in the post' (which never arrives) routine, but as you know can be abused as that case which hit the news a while back, of a guy dumping on his family and freinds locking out 13 months after instal date.

fortunately perhaps, i have never been asked to unlock one, its only happened when my engineer miss typed the engineer code and pressed 'YES' on an LCD pad. i think its a tricky issue offering to overcome it, not totally sure what my response would be if asked. but i think i'd take middle ground advise to update/replace the panel, giving the client the 'old' panel so its his/her moral resposibility to hand it back.

as an aside i wonder if you/i could be sued for say 'aiding and abeting a theft' in some way? handleing stolen goodss perhaps if he has not paid for the install. the equipment at least moraly, belongs to the installing company until paid for - it might be a rental. are you/i then assisting in its theft.

i know its a bit fanciful, but with people winning rediculace compensation cases for daft claims on the increase you never know, you have to be sure you can afford the legal costs and time, for the sake saving the 'dubious' client

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
