arfur mo Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 hi all, i started life in security at Burgot Alarms of Enford Street W1 'special division', which later combined with Rely-A-Bell to become Chubb Alarms, anbody else got this pedigree with me? Burgot won an industy award for the 1st 'silent' intruder alarm when he hit on the idea of using a '999' machine instead of bells to silently call the Police. it did not take too long for the villains to cut the telephone line for a completely silent break-in. the term 'silent' was a bit of a mis-representation as the machine was a wind-up gramaphone - yes real clockwork! it used the standard chrome dial and a mechanism to raise it to a peg. when triggered the noise of the motor, guvenor mechenisms and the crash as the dial simply fell to allow it to rewind could be heard through several walls - some intruders simply died of fright. hey-ho great times!! regs all arfur mo If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
