Guest Sparky-UK Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 I've installed a Pyronix Sterling 10 (have used loads before) with two keypads and a prox reader. For 3 months it worked perfectly, arming and disarming like a trooper - but recently, the customer has noted that when they enter the code in the morning to disarm, it goes off immediately and claims a tamper. Also, sometimes when they enter the building, using the Prox tag to disarm it triggers the alarm immediately - other times it allows them to disarm normally! It's a fair drive out to this customer so I'd like to be sure this isn't user error that can be sorted over the phone. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong here? They've claimed they haven't alerted anything in the house. .
Guest andy jinks Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 sounds like you need to adjust the tamper spring in the k/pad. If its ok untill they touch it then that sounds like the prob mate. look like youve got a long drive......

Thanks! But this happens also with the Prox reader - just presenting the tag can set off the alarm. The keypad part makes sense, but the prox reader is confusing. This is my first 2-keypad job, otherwise this has never happened before!
JB_ Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Probably aint nowt like this and i know feck all about Sterling 10's, but do the keypad's have diffrent addresses? Do they need diffrent ones? Just something to check.

Well as it turns out, the "Tamper while disarming" turned out to be the user incorrectly entering their usercode 3 times and setting off the alarm and showing Tamper on screen - then... magically... they remember the code to switch it off. I did ask them if this was the case many times. The prox reader was not triggering the alarm either - they were walking through a zone set as "Immediate" rather than via the Entry exit route as discussed during install. This has now been reconfigued. Don't think the call out charge even covers the petrol used to get there and back! Oh Well.
Service Engineer Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 Its sad to say, but it seems a lot of customers just dont listen when your explaining their Alarm System to them, and its soooo anoying when they call you out to a fault which turns out to be caused by user error. ........................................................
