:( Hi last week my paragon plus alarm suddenly went off for no apparent reason.I checked the fuse (the red coloured one) and found it had blown.Put a new fuse in and everything seemed fine until i tried to set the alarm when i was leaving the house. It would not set. The tamper and alarm lights came on and then the alarm sounded.I entered my code then tried to set the alarm again, still no joy.Can anyone help.

The fuse is probably blowing for a reason. Either a damaged cable, faulty device that the fuse is suplying or you've added\changed something to\on the system recently.

i agree with lurch, there is a reason why the fuse has blown, maybe a cable under a carpet has been worn : and two or more wires have touched. :hmm:

Checked wires under carpet all ok, fuse ok also.I remember not switching the mains off when i replaced the fuse.Could this have anything to do with the tamper light coming on?If i switch the mains off and start again could this solve the problem. If not any idea how much an engineer would charge to reset my system. I could do with having my own code and not the code which i was left with from the previous owner.I understand only an engineer would have the master reset code to do this. Thanks for all your replies.

Hi Craig

Did the new fuse blow again when you replaced it & was it the 12 volt aux fuse? Do you have Passive Infra Red detectors, if so are the Lights blinking on when you walk in front of them ?

If the fuse keeps blowing then you may have a short in the 12 volt power wires it seems.

You cant really check for cable damage just by looking, you need to use a meter and check the circuit. By removing the cover and replcing a fuse while the system is still powered may have been enough to cause additional faults to your alarm. I would highly reccomend you have an alarm company check the system for you and do the resetting you require, I would wait until an engineer has visited before you try and repair the system any more as you could do more damage and harm yourself.

If you post your location you may find a member local that will reply or you can check the list of installers for someone local. http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/secu...lice_area.shtml

if a visual check of the cable has not revealed anything, then you will require the services of a engineer to do an investigation. echo the others, post your location on this site, some body may be able to help. :)

it could be in 'engineer lockout' mode. some not so nice installers do this even on 'bells only' in order to get a call out charge from the gullable client for a simple error, or to make sure they get paid eventually if given a the 'i'll put the cheque in the post' routine after completion which never comes.
