Guest steveho Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 My paragon plus remote pad has been playing up recently,it needs a tap on the side to bring into life and it coughs and splutters and on occasion it will work.I'm thinking it must be a dry joint or pcb fault-is it advisable to open it up and have a look or should i just opt to fit a replacement? can anyone advise on a supplier where i could source one and what i could expect to pay thanks
Guest steveho Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 not a single reply, sorted it myself-dropped main panel cover down - alarm went off entered the code siren stopped split casing of remote key pad and found a chip with 3 pins connected to it which when touched caused the unit to malfunction ,gave it a slight twist to make it secure and bobs's your uncle all at zero cost to myself first fault with the paragon in eleven years what a cracking piece of kit
Guest Peter James Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I hope you replaced the battery in 1999 and again in 2003, its due to be replaced again next year. Pete
Guest steveho Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I hope you replaced the battery in 1999 and again in 2003, its due to be replaced again next year.Pete surely the battery condition/charge should be checked and only then be replaced if a not upto the job?
Guest Peter James Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 surely the battery condition/charge should be checked and only then be replaced if a not upto the job? You should replace the battery according to the manufactures recomendations, do a search on this site its the most frequently asked about fault by end users. The problem is if you have an 11 year old battery in your panel chances are not only is the battery no good but the panels charging circuit is not capable of charging a new replacement. A dead battery draws more current than the charging circuit is designed to produce. Think about it how long does a car battery last ? yet you expect a sealed nicad to last as long? Pyronix is not such a popular manufacture amongst pro installers (Its more an diy panel) thats probably why you didnt get any replies to your original post, I would of replied if I knew the answer, I suspect most of the 75 people who looked thought the same. Pete

whistle Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 ,gave it a slight twist to make it secure and bobs's your uncle all at zero cost to myself first fault with the paragon in eleven years what a cracking piece of kit Next fault i go on i must twist a dry joint save's me getting out my soldering iron.??? WTF Paragon and cracking piece of kit don't mix in my book. Now Galaxy 3, Aplex, Aritech ATS and cracking kit, I would have to agree but not that cack the keypads never worked 100% anyway.
Guest Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Next fault i go on i must twist a dry joint save's me getting out my soldering iron.??? WTF *QFA. That's in the Ladybird book of tips, right under 'when joining mains cables just twist them together'.
