Guest ericw Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Hi all, How it all started... As I'm doing some domotics project, I read on a companies website that galaxy panels were ideal to interface with the domotisc systems. Google " galaxy alarm systems" and yep, what's the answer...ebay "galaxy xxx" So without further knowledge I bought a galaxy and then started research... I did see on this forum that there is a special galaxy forum, but only for trade ( I don't understand this but the rules are the rules...). I also did get the manuals and for a electronics engineer with 15 years of programming experience setting up a galaxy (simple configuration) should be quite feasible. Now I ran into the following problem: My galaxy18 is an old version v1.04 and I installed it with all the resistors and only one keypad connected to it. I get the initial display, but as soon as i hit a number key to put in the engineer code, I get a list of ********* on the keypad, ( going up to 10, then disappearing, then again going from 1 to 10 *, the the normal screen comes back for half a second and the cycle starts again. No tamper alarm, nothing.... the only thing I can do is to reset ( power off, power on the panel ) to get back the normal screen. I have read somewhere that for MK7 keypad minimum V1.18 of the panel firmware is required ? Can somebody confirm this ? Is there somewhere a table (compatibility matrix) of panels and keypad versions that go together ? Does anybody know what is the problem I describe above ? Thanks for all hints ... ( And yes..I know already, galaxy panels are not for DIY, but how did all of you start ???) ( and yes this is a perfect question for the galaxy forum, but as I cannot access it...) Eric

Eric We, well most of us started by working for approved companies and attending the Galaxy training courses. Please remember the Galaxy is an intruder alarm panel and therefore anything to discuss on these panels needs to be in a 'trade' section PG Security Systems Somerset SSAIB Certificate of Merit Installers. www.pgsecurity.co.uk
ian.cant Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 And yes..I know already, galaxy panels are not for DIY, but how did all of you start With the manufactures training course is where i started with the Galaxy. You have now found out why we dont like to try a support the DIYing & Ebaying fraternity with Galaxy panels. Its never simple and even with 15 years experience as a programmer or electronics engineer you will struggle when it doesnt work. The Galaxy isnt a DIY panel as you are aware which is why the its in the trade section (along with lots of other PRO panel info). The stars indicate that the panel isnt talking to the keypad, compatability is a possibility as is incorrect connection and just plain duff kit among other things. Personally i am not sure of what is and isnt compatable as i dont use the kit often enough these days. If your lucky someone may post the answer you require but it may well not be the answer you were hoping for.

Eric a mk7 rkp wont working on 1.04 panel,1.18 was the next v software after that, but were into the 4.5s now...you need a newer pcb
Guest ericw Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I already was afraid of that answer, but thank you very much....that is going to save me a lot of headache already. Now if someone want to sell me a v4 pcb... feel free to leave me a message. ( and off course, the reason why I want to install an intruder alarm is because I did get some unwelcome visitors.. .while i was sleeping, so I don t really want a connection to a alarm monitoring company, but I want to have at least a lot of noise, inside )

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest ALSEC Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 The noise will freak them and they will kill you. You should be a salesman....
norman Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Why thankyou....oh hold on, that was not a compliment.... Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
C.S TEK. Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 is your RKP addressed correctly, have you used screened cable and do you have a resistors on end of data line?? AND MORE TO POINT DO YOU KNOW ENGINEER CODE? Trade Member As Mr Kingswood said "Dont forget the 6 P's when installing.....Proper Preperation Prevents P*** Poor Performance!!!" John Kingswood(alais Nobby), Paul Earl Ltd 1985-2006
Guest ericw Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 is your RKP addressed correctly, have you used screened cable and do you have a resistors on end of data line?? AND MORE TO POINT DO YOU KNOW ENGINEER CODE? The keypas is at address 0. Did not use screened cable (just for the test) , but have a 680 ohm resistor installed at the end of the line (keypad side). I guess the engineer code is correct, namely ****** But I now assume the error is that the panel version which is too old V1.04 and not compatible with the MK7 keypad as "eng" pointed out.
