Hi Oldtimer

It never ceases to amaze me on how customers decide to save money.

I have been in this industry for many years now, and I have seen things that would stop most people from sleeping at night. :o

Fortunately most burglars are only interested in stealing property and not the contents of your daughters (or wife's for that matter) nicker draw. :D

I understand the bit about saving money I do most of our own decorating, drive a deisal ect. -_-

But when it comes to my family and my property I just could not cut costs in protecting them.

I think its like most things in life no-one ever thinks it will happen to them, but like the fire brigade ad on tv add I would rather my family safe :) than me be sorry. :(

RE OLDTIMER

i would have said to him that if he was prepared to pay my original call out charge, (plus overdue interest for late payment!!) and he was prepared to pay my call out charge in advance (minimum say ..... £75) that i would be glad to come and have a look at his alarm - or if he preferred i could put him in touch with some cowboys who will really rip him off!!. do you think he would have got the message? :P

as you can tell i don,t have much patience when a customer so to speak insults my professionalism. i even had people question my costs re baterries when i do it as a guvvie(job on the side for you foreigners-anybody not from hull that is-!!). i usually tell them to go and get a quote from a company and than rethink my quote usually £25 - £35 depending on battery size and how far i will have to go.

My first reaction was to tell this guy to piss off but I thought better of it after counting to 10.

I explained to him that if he had taken my offer of servicing his system once a year then he would have had to pay for the cost & carrage of the replacement battery. Because I always reward loyalty to my customer.

Yes I know some of the engineers on this site would say are you mad not making a profit on the battery but I reckon if a large supermarket can have a loss leader

then why not me cos remember people we are dealing with joe public who would drive 10 mile past a petrol station to get his fuel 5p cheaper.

As I was saying I pointed out to the guy that I was already out of pocket for the previous visit and there was no way that I was going to try and sort out the mess

that he had.

He got angry and told me I was an arogent SOB. Me said dont get angry with me go get the guy who put it in.

One thing I have learned is always try and please the customer but I draw the line when they put a saddle on your back ride you up and down the street and the tell you ,you should be honoured that they have selected you.
