Sorry, this product is not currently available for purchase.

This item is not available because we are currently out of stock. Why not search for an alternative product? :'(

So what was it?

Personally I like Netgear stuff, but Linksys is pretty good too.

Just go for vanilla 802.11g. Ignore any claims about extra range, pre-N etc. etc. unless you live in a granite mansion :!:

And once you have your wireless router read up on the wireless security bit in the manual and enable your WEP otherwise half the street will be downloading porn on your internet connection.

Pete

If the router/wap you get supports wpa encryption enable that since wep can be cracked easily. Also enable mac filtering, change the default admin password and choose a very strong wpa or wep key.

Thanks for the info I must admit the reson for keeping the house cabled is security storys regarding wireless, but have to keep the good lady happy.

Also is it Ok to continue to use ICS sharing from the main PC with the USB router connected to it and just plug the access point into the hub?

I would very much doubt that your USB device is a router. The free boxes from ISP's are just modems, no security with them at all. Saying you are worried about security then saying you are using a USB modem is a bit of a contradiction!

I would recommend you ditch the USB modem and ICS and get yourself a Netgear DG834G. I've fitted loads of these and never had a problem. Doing this you will gain additional security from the router, so you're relying less on each PC to do it all. You also don't need to have a PC on all the time to access t'internet and most of all, you're not relying on ICS, which is a bit hit and miss at times.

QFA, seconded, thirded etc.

If you have 4 PC's already ICS is far from ideal. Get an ADSL wireless router which has a firewall in it. Apply all the security tips mentioned above. :ninja:

Netgear DG834GT is what I've got - great bit of kit and set up many others too. DG834G is just as good for most normal use and a bit cheaper. :)
