Guest ghs1 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I have been reading the comments made on the forum regarding problems with eng.codes with great sympathy. I had a gardtec 816 panel fitted about 9yrs ago and paid the engineer for his labour and for the parts. On completion of the job i asked him for the eng. code . A routine excercise one would of thought just in case any problems were to occur in the future. The installation eng. refused this request and assured me that if there was any problems in the future he would be on hand to sort them out. - Fine. Now everyone knows life does'nt work like that and true to form when there was a problem he was no longer around. Calling another eng. to solve this problem is a speculative approach as this is reinforced by most of the comments made by the engineers on this site. What annoys me is that once a job has been completed and money has changed hands and no other contract has been drawn up, the eng. code belongs to the paying customer. It is up to the customer then to choose how his alarm is serviced by the company of his choice.-what we call a free market, best prices/service etc.. Its like having a car radio fitted but the code stays with the shop. Instead customers are held to ransom by this service code or eng. code- what a joke! I am still faced with a system where i cannot use the eng. code as i need to change some of the descriptions on the display for the various zones after moving zones to diferent parts of the house. if anyone has any suggestions on the eng. code please let me know as i have served 9yrs. without it and the system is not really functioning to its true potential on the zone descriptions. Industrial practices for domestic circumstances - Not on
whistle Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 If i give you the engineer code? What if you program a zone as spare in error than get a break in and sue me for failure of the system. I Dont think so.

I Dont think so. like i said its not rocket science to programme the panel, even less so for another engineer and i don't think the enginner was thinking of me being burgled when he refused, but in once sense i have been. Just to prove the theory further, which is better, sending a panel back to gardtec and having no alarm for a week or having the code for innocent purposes like the one i've mentioned. Enginners not so protective please.
