Guest italiastar
OK, with the on-set of spring, it's time for the old A1 alarm to go ....................... 11 years old still on the original batteries and apart from a few recent false alarms when the sounder has strong sun on it, it has performed brillliantly. Having read these forums I'm now getting confused as one person say's the xyz panels is good and someone else criticises it. I'm considering a Texecom Veritas 8+ and Odessy 4 - I fitted a Texecom before without any issues. I'm also tempted by an ADE system, although have no experience of those. Without starting an argument, could you please give your views. Thank you.
Guest
yep, stick to texecom. not necessarily my choice either but i have other reasons as well..
Guest
Whilst it wouldn't be my choice if you've used it before stick with what you know. QFA. I'm not a Veritas fan but for a DIY installation they're about the best panels going at the moment.
Guest heliart
I would say one of the best DIY panels would be the Texecom Premier. I know most of the professionals on here would tell you the Texecom Premier panels are not DIY recommended, but I've installed a very thorough Texecom Premier system DIY at home. My first DIY install, and it worked out a treat. I really did take all the advice I could from this forum, and I did get quotes from two local companies etc, but they could not offer what I was looking for. I've now got a fully featured system, that I know inside out, and can maintain, extend, and service all myself. Apart from one false alarm with a faulty smoke detector (Texecom), it's been rock solid.
Adi
Might as well upgrade to a veritas excel. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

You have obviously coped with it, and well done to you! , but most DIYer's probably wouldn't.

Obviously you're a special DIYer, the Premier isn't the best choice for most DIYers as it does too much and gets quite a few people confused. A Veritas does what it needs to and is easy and straight forwards. KISS. No need to go OTT on the spec just for the sake of it.

Thanks for all your advice. I suppose it depends on our definition of DIYers - they're are some who struggle with putting a fuse in a plug, but call themselves DIYers because they can wrap some silver foil round a fuse to get it working. I'm quiet confident with alarm installations having fitted about 5 house ones and the same number of car ones (I appreciate that the latter do not compare). I'm happy to consider the premier or any other system - after all the Veritas was the first box of it's type that I'd fitted and found it no problem - the programming instructions were spot on. Working in the IT industry I'm also happy with the programming and wiring, having wired up many computer installations, including data cabling, so hopefully I'm up to it - If not I'll have expensive contents in my bin and I'll be coming to one of you guys with my tail between my legs. Is the premier just a bit more complex to programme? and also what makes it better? I'm after a good reliable system at reasonable cost - although that doesn't mean cheap. My other reason for doing it myself is for my own satisfaction and knowledge that I know that I can fix and service it, like mentioned previously. I've just looked at the premier and it looks good. I've also seen that Texecom do anti-masking PIRs, which made me think that maybe I should upgrade my PIR's - what ones would you guys recommend? Thank you all for your help and advice. Premier really needs to be programmed with a lap-top.... it is far more complicated. Unless you need partitions or something out of the ordinary, use the Veritas or Excel
Guest
Depends what you want it to do. If you want an 8 zone alarm system that you can set and unset and also part set at night then the Veritas will be absolutely fine. You tell us what you want it to do and we can advise on a system. People (other DIYers) coming along and recommending systems when they clearly haven't a full understanding of the situation only confuses the issue. My other reason for doing it myself is for my own satisfaction and knowledge that I know that I can fix and service it, So you're going to spend the next several years training as a security engineer then - on a reduced wage? No, didn't think so.
