Guest italiastar Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Premier really needs to be programmed with a lap-top.... it is far more complicated. Unless you need partitions or something out of the ordinary, use the Veritas or Excel Thanks for that - I'd have no problem programming with a lap-top - in fact I'd probably find it easier, but the real question is do I need all these extra options - probably not. Cont. below.... Depends what you want it to do. If you want an 8 zone alarm system that you can set and unset and also part set at night then the Veritas will be absolutely fine. Thank you also for your advice - basically I've got a bog-standard 3 bed-semi with 2 door detectors (front & back) and 4 PIR's covering the rest. I may expand the system to add a viper on the patio door and could add a couple more sensors - eg my garage / lean to isn't covered as I was concrened about false alarms, so a good sensor for this environment would be usefull. I think 8 poss 10 zone would be sufficient for my needs. I need 2 zones because I do part arm it at night. I'm not keen on proximity tags or remote controls as if you lose the tag with the keys, someone can get in and disable the alarm. I currently don't have a remote keypad - buttons on the control panel and whilst I can see the advantage on these, I can live without one. You tell us what you want it to do and we can advise on a system. People (other DIYers) coming along and recommending systems when they clearly haven't a full understanding of the situation only confuses the issue. So you're going to spend the next several years training as a security engineer then - on a reduced wage? No, didn't think so. Mmmmm - I'm sure you know the answer to that, but I'd probably enjoy the job more Thank you all for your continued help - it really is much appreciated
breff Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Why not go for the Premier 24, its not as complicated as its big brothers and you get 10 zones out of the box if you use the 2 in the keypad. The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

QFA, The 24 will do everything you need it to. Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Alarm Protection Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I would go for the ADE G3 Compact. Easy to install and straight forward for a DIY expert. !

Problem is, he may need 9 or 10 zones so in this instance I'd recommend the Premier 24 as others have said. You can also get yourself an LCD keypad with the Premier, which is more convenient for programming and event viewing. Not essential but an added bonus while you're at it kind of thing.

As you can see, my A1 system is still holding out - 12 years old and apart from a few false alarms last autumn it has worked perfectly - still on the original batteries and I've never replaced or maintained anything - however the time has come for it to go. The Premier 24 looks good - do I need a laptop to programme it or can I do it via the LCD keypad? I also plan to use an odessy 3 box - is this good? As an extra I'll add a dialler - are the texecom ones Good ? Many thanks
Rik Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The Premier 24 looks good - do I need a laptop to programme it or can I do it via the LCD keypad? You can program all the premier range via the LCD keypad, using a laptor just speeds up the process.

Odessy 3 box will be fine, try not to get the 1E model though (e for economy) as it is not as potent as it's big brother. The texecom ones will be fine but there are better ones on the market IMHO but you may struggle to source these. Regards Bellman Thanks for your reply - I'd already decided against the "e" models - in fact I'm considering the metal clad one for added security. What ones do you think are better - I may be able to source them as I've got a trade catalogue for mail order and am using a prpoer trade counter.
