Bell Boxes

hi all

is it possible at all to make a decoy //.National Installer.// bell box live?

Erm....................................................

That is a very strange question if you don't mind me saying so. :hmm:

It's a bit like an army general asking "can I make those fake cardboard tanks drive round and fire shells at the enemy". Answer - get some tanks with drivers ammunition etc.

At the risk of stating the obvious, get //.National Installer.// in to install an alarm with a live bell-box.

On the other hand, given this is a DIY section I guess you're not looking for that answer.

Assuming you have an alarm system - buy a real bell-box and wire it in. But it won't be an //.National Installer.// one.

If you look in other sections of TSI you'll find lots of discussions on why you shouldn't/couldn't have a "real" //.National Installer.// bell-box other than as part of a proper //.National Installer.// alarm, which would normally be monitored.

A "pretend" //.National Installer.// bellbox does a great dis-service to all other genuine //.National Installer.// customers.

Yes you can but the part to do it is custom to //.National Installer.// and you cannot buy them on their own.

Wouldn't it be simpler just to put up another make of box?

now come on rjbsec, perhaps he is pretending to like //.National Installer.// (like pretend to like the mother-in-law  )

any bell box or any box for that matter can be made 'live' even a tupperware box, but you are dealing with very high voltages several thousand volts in fact. no real current but can still result in a severe shock from the strobe circuit, with the greatest respect untrained fingers get the most of these.

if all you want an official looking bell box, then buy one from a electrical suppliers or Maplins, you can get ones with a generic transfer on.

remember you will be working of a ladder, so is it worth the risk of a shock at any hieght?

be safe don't bodge it, but to be very safe get a (preferably recommended to you) professional, there is more to this game than meets the eye, and very much more than just a label.

doing what you suggest is like putting a go faster strip on a lawn mower, might look a bit flash but not win many cross country rallies - if it even starts.
