Guest alreid Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Hey guys, I have a quick one here i was with an 78 year old lovely lady this afternoon and i will be qouting a new alarm and several sensor lights, anyhoo. There will be 3 or 4 PIR's and 3 door contacts on a standard C+K Kit(all straightforward at this stage). But at all times she is afraid of someone coming through the back door when she is in the lounge or having a rest. She almost wants a door alert function or door monitor and i suggested a chime when the door opens but she is afraid of missing the chime or thinking that she may have heard it so want's a continous sound if the back door is opened. What about this or can someone suggest anything better (beside's a stand alone door alarm) I fit 2 sets of door contacts on the back door, 1 for standard door contact wired back to a standard zone and the other connected to a zone programmed as a fire zone(bear with me) I would then fit an 1 gang 1 way switch in parallel to allow isolation when she is going outside, otherwise it would be set in the open position and then if the door is opened the 2nd door contact would go open circuit then the alarm would be activated as if in Fire Detection mode. Any other suggestions or anyone want's to shoot my theory down please feel free SEE MY ATTACHED PICTURE for basic circuit diagram Al Reid
norman Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Why bother with the second contact, relay's are your friend. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

norman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 And she is happy with a GRADE 1 system?I may be wrong but reading the first post I am led to believe, (purely from my own deductions) that it wont be graded at all!! just a hunch but hey ho. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest alreid Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Maybe this is a stupid question but what do you mean by a "Grade 1 system" ?. I have installed several of these C+K system's in domestic situations and have one in my own house and have never had any problems or issues. Please Clarfiy as i can install an intruder alarm with the best of you guys with the domestic systems but this is not my field. I had worked for years in Fire and Security, mostly addressable and conventional fire alarm installation and peripheral items suach as DRU's and switched output controls. I also installed and maintained Warden Call, Door Entry, Door Access and CCTV. My main field of expertise is Telephone systems and networking with VOIP and ISDN services, but please do NOT treat me with contempt as i know there are a lot of "have a go hero's" at fitting alarms. Sorry i hope that doesn't sound like a rant i was just letting you guy's know my background is NOT primarly intruder in any way, but i have installed around 7 C+K kits and and some Scantronic 500R wireless and never had any isuses and basically try to stick to products i have used with no problems. Many thanks P.S. as per original post i could also do this with zone 8 as it is the PA zone, but please keep suggestions coming.
norman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Maybe this is a stupid question but what do you mean by a "Grade 1 system" ?.I rest my case your honour.Systems now have to be grades under new European Standards. Do a search under pd 6662. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

I know the CK panels are ungraded but does that not default to one or does it simply become ungraded then? PG Security Systems Somerset SSAIB Certificate of Merit Installers. www.pgsecurity.co.uk
Adi Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Hey guys,I have a quick one here i was with an 78 year old lovely lady this afternoon Al Reid I see we are back onto gumming again. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Guest alreid Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Nice one ADI, Very funny when you look at it that way, guess you only look at things from one angle sometimes and this is when you must have a sense of humor. Thanks for all the tech advice on this guys !, seriously does anyone have a better idea for this solution cause at the end of the day is that not what the forum is about ?, guiding, advising and giving fresh idea's and looking at things from a fresh angle. Thanks guys and sorry to all about the rant yesterday, if you guys ever need any Comms advice please feel free to gimme a shout. I will check out all the regulations and grading standards as this has very serious implications for the end users insurance and security requirements which i don't take lightly.
Adi Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I think the earlier replies were good a relay is your friend and the buzzer is his friend, i wouldnt want to put an isolator switch on it tho, if its not switched back on as may happen even more so with elderly people everything you have done will be a waste of time. Yes this forum is for the reasons you stated but life and forum without a bit of humour is boring. Adi I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
